Teaching Studio
Welcome to Dr. H's Viola and Violin Studio based in Porterville, California. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I have welcomed all ages, levels, and goal mindsets into my teaching studio with only ONE requirement; a desire to learn how to play the viola and/or violin well.
In the Porterville/Visalia area, lessons are in-person at Dr. H's studio or online. Dr. H will travel to the student's home (based on availability) for an additional fee.
For students outside the Central Valley, Dr. H offers online lessons via zoom and FaceTime.
Why take lessons?
-
Most lessons are weekly so you can build progress with momentum and accountability.
-
Studio library so you can choose repertoire that interests and excites you and learn about viola or violin history, performance practice, and more!
-
Recital and performance opportunities so you can have an opportunity to perform as a soloist and chamber musician.
-
Audition preparation: whether preparing for an honor group, youth group or college auditions, we will take each one step-by-step to make you feel as confident as possible for each.
-
I am always happy to help students with school or youth group music, but only with areas giving the student problems. In lessons, we will work to address any gaps in knowledge or insecurities.

Lesson Details:
-
Lessons are available in 30, 45, 60, or 90-minute increments.
-
For students new to playing or new to private lessons, it is recommended that students start with 30-minute lessons. Lesson length can always be increased, but I find that while getting to know the student and vice versa, it promotes a positive and comfortable learning environment.
-
All sheet music and studies will be provided to the student. If a book or piece will be used long-term, it will be recommended to purchase. If a piece is to be performed for competition, an original hard copy is required for the judge.
